C.F. Yam is a qualified actuary with extensive experience in life, health and general insurance, as well as investment and pension practices. C.F. started his career in an international actuarial consulting firm, providing advice to insurers, retirement schemes and fund management companies. He has held positions as chief financial officer and appointed actuary for both traditional life insurer and bancassurers; and has structured and overseen investment strategies for life and pension funds, as well as their asset-liability risk management.

Apart from financial and actuarial roles, C.F. has also managed businesses, including group insurance and pension businesses, start-up operations, and the independent third party MPF administration company serving businesses outsourced by major financial institutions in Hong Kong. C.F. is experienced in managing both a smaller team of professional staff as well as sized operations. In his operational roles, C.F. has overseen both life insurance and MPF operations, and has been active in structuring system designs and implementing new service initiatives as well as six-sigma process excellence practice. C.F. is now Senior Advisor of Sinosoft (International) Co., Ltd and focuses on insurance services innovation to leverage skills from China.

C.F. was President of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong in 1997, and also chaired ASHK life insurance and pensions committees respectively. He was a panel member of the specialists of the Mandatory Provident Fund Scheme of the Government of HKSAR when the MPF was launched. C.F. was also the leading Hong Kong representative on PBOC’s working committee, drafting the first actuarial practice for the PRC. Apart from publishing articles in Hong Kong and China, C.F. has also given public lectures in universities, spoken in professional conferences and has been mentors for university students in Hong Kong and Shanghai. In recent years, C.F. has spoken on implications of investment volatility on variable annuity products, new insurance solvency practices as well as fintech in different forums.

C.F. was awarded a Master of Science degree with Distinction by the University of Lancaster in England and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) degree from the University of Hong Kong. C.F. is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries of the United States of America. He also obtained Chartered Financial Planner qualification. C.F. is currently a member of the Policy Research Committee of the Financial Services Development Council of HKSAR.
